About: Volunteers

Volunteer

SARC parent volunteers are critical in providing a quality experience for our athletes. Our organization thrives through the cooperation of each athlete, coach, board member and parent. Almost every parent at SARC began knowing little about the sport of rowing, just like most new rowers. Willingness, interest and the help of others within the organization all seem to allow each segment of this club to do great things!

Our volunteer coordinator for 2011-2012 is Beverly Podwojski, volunteercoordinator[at]standrewrowing.com Please feel free to contact Bev if you have any questions about volunteer opportunities.

The On-line volunteer signup sheets are available in GoogleDocs. Please find an available time and position that meets your schedule, and send a note to Bev with the date, time, and position that you would like.

Definitions of Positions:

Early Chaperones will follow in cars behind the buses up to the venue or hotel. If there is not enough room on the bus, you may need to take kids in your car (only when necessary). When / if they stop for dinner, help keep track of kids and count kids before leaving.

Late chaperones will leave one hour after the bus leaves, and will receive a call from the coaching staff if anyone has missed the bus and needs a ride.

Chaperone duties include:

  • Helping the coaches distribute keys, room assignments
  • Keeping rowers quiet and under control
  • Performing room check at 10pm, or at the designated time. No purpling!
  • Rowers are not permitted to leave the hotel without permission from the coaching staff.
  • In the morning, waking rowers up if necessary.
  • Following the buses home at the end of the regatta.
  • Chaperones are responsible for their own room and transportation costs.

Tent City: Tent city volunteers supervise and assist the rowers in setting up the large tents, cook tents and cooking tables, griddles and serving stations.

Tent City Kitchen: Help with the cooking, setting-up, serving and tearing down the tents, kitchen and all the cooking supplies.

Tent City Set-up: Generally the people who help with tent city are the same people who help with the cooking and setting-up and tearing down of the tents, kitchen and all the cooking supplies.

Thanks in advance for helping to make SARC the premier youth rowing club in Atlanta!
