    Summer Season

3 REASONS TO KEEP ROWING THIS SUMMER…

...whether you attend a camp at the national, regional or local level, or a university camp somewhere out-of-state, do something! Stay active, keep rowing and build on the hard work and progress you’ve already completed.

      1. Maintain your aerobic base to prepare you for next fall, whether rowing in college or again in high school. Three months off, doing nothing, will practically negate your progress this spring. Every fall we see that the rowers who continue training over summer months are months ahead of those who do not. Balance your summer training with 3-4 weeks of light cross-training away from crew before fall season starts.
      2. Improve your technique. With smaller groups you receive more individualized coaching and have increased opportunity to work on the areas of your stroke that need focus. Attend a college camp and take advantage of a different coaching perspective to learn something new. Or, try a different boat, perhaps sculling to advance your rowing ability in a balanced way.
      3. HAVE FUN!!! With school out, you still have opportunities to work during the summer and rowing camps are a great release from your job. Spend time with friends at practice, meet new friends and enjoy racing and road trips at the regatta(s).

    Collegiate Summer Camps

Rowers looking for a change of venue while still maintaining an active participation in rowing this summer, but who do not meet the requirements for attending a regional or national development camp, should look to opportunities at various colleges around the country with instructional camps. Schools such as the United States Naval Academy, University of Iowa, Princeton, University of Wisconsin and Harvard are just a few of the schools that provide opportunities at various levels to see rowing from a different perspective in a different city while still working on the same goals of maintaining/improving fitness and developing technique.

For more information about a specific collegiate camp visit www.row2k.com/camps to give you an overview of camps offered across the country. There are also additional camps offered through Nike in various locations throughout the United States. For locations visit www.USSportsCamps.com
