Alpharetta rower wins national title

ALPHARETTA, Ga. -- A member of the Saint Andrew Rowing Club placed first in her age group at a recent major competition.

Isabel Castro won the 4-minute row for 12- and 13-year-old women at the C.R.A.S.H.-B Sprints World Indoor Rowing Championship in Boston last weekend. She rowed 1,011 meters in those four minutes, beating the second-place finisher by 60 meters. See the results.

The 7th grader has competed in a number of regional and national rowing competitions, earning American and world records in her age group in the process.

Castro lives in Alpharetta and attends Piney Grove Middle School in Cumming.

 A dream came true todayToday on NCAA national signing day, surrounded by her family and coaches Erin Hayes signed her scholarship national letter of intent to be a coxswain for the University of Alabama women's rowing team.

Congratulations to Roswell senior Sarah Podwojski as she signs scholarship national letter of intent for the University of Louisville! Way to go Sarah!!

Congratulations are in order for Marist Senior Devon Erickson as she signs her scholarship national letter of intent for the University of Texas Women's Rowing Team.

SARC rowers are off next year to row at Stanford University, University of Alabama, University of Washington and Southern Methodist University.

Congratulations to SARC Alum AND SARC Coach Sean Gibel!  Sean earned a spot (stroke seat)  on the US National senior men's lightweight 8 and will be competing in the 2013 Senior World Championships this year in South Korea.

Congratulations to SARC's Women's Quad for taking First place in the "C" Finals at the 2013 USRowing Youth Nationals in Oakridge, TN.  WAY TO GO LADIES!!!

Congrats to SARC Alumna Adrian Edmonds (senior at Bucknell University) for being honored as a light-weight ALL AMERICAN!
