SARC is excited to announce we will be hosting National Learn to Row Day at our facility.
All raising 6th through 12th graders are invited to attend this fun day.
When: Saturday, June 1st 12:00-1:30
St. Andrew Rowing Club is a youth only rowing club that was founded in the fall of 1988 by Georgia Tech on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. SARC still shares Georgia Tech’s Black and Yellow team colors as well as the same training facility, located behind St. Andrews Catholic Church in Roswell.
So, What Is So Special About Rowing?
In rowing, there are no obvious superstars—there is only a team, working together toward the common goal of moving the boat forward. Unlike other sports, where a single player or a single play, can change the game, in rowing, if one person is off, the whole team is impacted. In fact, we find many of our first-time rowers initially become interested in rowing because teaming up with seven other teammates mitigates the stress of individual performance. We’ve seen kids who never thought of themselves as having coordination or a competitive drive discover their inner strength, gain confidence, and learn to love the thrill of competition. In short, even non-athletes learn the value of teamwork and become athletes.
National Learn to Row Day is geared towards exposing others to the sport of rowing and many of the long-term benefits, but it’s also going to be a fun day!
The kids will meet at 12:00 and spend the next 1.5 hours learning about the boats, the equipment, going through training exercises, running a few competitive drills and getting a feel for life at the boathouse.
Please be sure to wear your running shoes and athletic wear and feel free to contact us with any questions. Contact Alice Westerfield at email@example.com
